Thanks so very much for your continuing effort to preserve the history of Port Oneida through the Kelderhouse heritage. Your story is fascinating! My family “roots” go all the way back to the Georg Hutzler family, homesteaders on S. Manitou…I have many cousins in and around Leland and Empire, and although I live in the Chicago area, I spend summers rediscovering my own heritage, visiting the villages and farms of those times gone by when people were connected to the land that served them…I believe I feel their spirits in my heart, sustaining me through the winter months, until I return to Leelanau again. I understand your passion and when I retire and move to the area within the next five years, you can count on my volunteer help in your efforts.
