It’s dangerous to ride a bike on the congested summer streets of Glen Arbor, period. No bike lanes are going to change that. It is scary to try to navigate my car in town, and I am local and know my way! If I were gawking to try and see what shops I, as a tourist, may want to visit (or, God forbid, park near!) I cannot also be aware of all the walkers, bikers and drivers that are create a confusing swirl of coming, going, turning, stopping, and waiting. And I believe it’s a joke if you think everyone is going to start hauling bikes in their backseats so they can park at some random roadside outside of town (ANOTHER hazard) and pedal through to town to conduct their business.
So, Joe Public Summer Visitor, my advice is to remember that those lines on the road are only paint…they are not Superman’s cape. I know at least two people personally who have been in bike/car accidents in Glen Arbor last year. One of those incidents involved a child. Yup…the car door swung open (legally parallel parked by Boonedock’s) and the kid smashed right into it. The other person on a bike was hit as the car backed out of Cherry Republic.
Sorry, can’t applaud anything at this point that adds to Glen Arbor’s summer insanity.
