Comment on Empire to charge for beach parking in 2014 by Peter M Kolasinski

Empire, Mi growing pains

Empire has under gone a great deal of changes over my life time. My first experience I can remember is visiting my Grand Mother in the 50’s certainly not the place it is today. Quit all the time until relatives of the residents turn their kids loose and back to normal as soon as they leave. I remember a quick drive down to the beach about 45 minutes before sunset insured a primed spot to watch the sunset. Empire and Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes quiet beauty began spreading. My favorite place in the world was changing and growing. My Grand Mothers house needed to be replaced it was the mid 90’s my mother born in Empire still having many relatives there was treated like an outsider! The house went up and we worked on it over weekends and my vacation time about 5 yrs. It was during this time Niagra St went from the rd to the beach to a nonstop parade all day, with car loads of people as well constant foot traffic. My Empire was gone! My son’s Empire had been born still very beautiful and a desirable place to be! All that said Empire has grown over the years, still the place to be and has a pice for “my up north!” now needs full time maintence seems a small price to use the beach and view the sunset!
