Public health professionals recommend that people attend public firework displays rather than risk being injured by consumer fireworks. Hospitalizations due to such injuries have doubled in recent years.
We, too, loved watching the fireworks, but firework debris on beaches and in the lake water concern us. My husband walked out of the water with handfuls of firework fuses and other junk after his daily swim.
Maybe we’re becoming way too protective of the land, but there’s got to be a better way to celebrate our independence and preserve the beauty of this area.
