I have done a fair amount of research about Line 5 and while I personally am comfortable with it, I know others are not. However, the pipeline was built according to any regulations that existed at that time.. What I would propose is that the U.S. or the Great Lakes states pay to have the line shut down and an alternative one built.
Certainly, Congressman Bergman is well aware of the issue, but we must give him time act, recognizing that he is just one voice of 435 in the House of Representatives.
On the question of pipelines in general, we are going to have to live with them for the foreseeable future. I have explored other resources, but people can get a better understanding by going to pipeline101.org which shows maps of both liquid pipelines and gas pipelines. I suspect that the site was put up by industry sources, but it is nonetheless educational in understanding pipelines. Full disclosure I am not, nor do I or my relatives and friends have vested interests in pipelines.
