Glen Arbor, a most beautiful place…with the most interesting Planning Commission conflicts of interest.
Glen Arbor Township Planning Commission, chaired by Lance Roman, has twice been ordered by Circuit Court Judge Thomas Powers to clarify the intent of it’s Glen Arbor Township’s accessory buildings according to Enterprise reports but without any action to date. At the same time, Mr. Roman’s ex-wife is engaged in a lawsuit involving an oversized accessory building built on the property next to hers. According to on-line meeting commission meeting notes, the Chairman’s has recused himself from discussions regarding that case. The question is: is his recusal from that case just smoke and mirrors when while his other good old boys friends on the commission carry out any of any personal grudges he might hold against his ex-wife or does the commission have just plain disregard for the courts?
It’s also interesting to know that Bob Ihme, Glen Arbor Planning Commission Vice Chairman and local business owner is planing to build a large poll barn in downtown Glen Arbor. Is it legal? I guess…at least according to current accessory building laws that planning commission has “conveniently” left vaguely defined.
I do appreciate the time and effort it takes to serve in these local government positions as they truly do shape the future of our most treasured communities. These are often thankless positions with minimal token salaries.
However, I’d encourage these Glen Arbor Township Planning Commission officials to remember that they signed up to represent the interests of the entire community, not just their personal interests.
My suggestion to all property owners: attend local government meetings and/or read meeting minutes on-line. Keep your local government officials accountable…especially if you live in Glen Arbor Township!
