I have been reading all of this with much interest but also confusion~ I too have walked the beach at Lake Michigan many many times and we do enjoy it so much! I have been lucky enough to find some really kind people also walking the beach where I go and have met some homeowners there as well and they have always been very friendly and kind ~ the beach where I walk has now put up a sign at one end saying it is private during the summer season? These are my feelings on this~ I go to walk and I also look for Beach glass that I so love to collect~ I do not bother anyone and never disrespect anyone and would like to be treated the same~ The Great Lakes are just that and they are to be loved and enjoyed by all of us ~ I don’t care who you are or where you are from or how much you paid for your home ~ in my opinion you do not own the Lake period. The homes on the shoreline where I go are beautiful and so far I have had no problems walking and I am going to continue to do so~ very sadly I saw this type thing happen in my home state of South Carolina~ where I use to be able to run as a child on the beaches there are now blocked and filled with Condo’s~ Hotels~ “Private Homes” We took our children back there to show them the Ocean and beach and ended up going to a “Public Park” instead made me angry and sad ~ I get it about moving on into the future but there will come a time when we will all wish we had saved a huge portion of our Oceans and Lakes for not only all of our use but our children and grandchildren also to enjoy~ You can own your homes and still be gracious to those of us that do try to give you respect and look to your homes often saying “Wow” Aren’t they lucky to be able to wake up every day with that view!!! Please think about it before you would ever begrudge anyone from walking and enjoying what really belongs to us all! Are you really all that special that you can’t rise above it and live and let live without a huge argument over someone just taking a relaxing walk by the shoreline? Be kind and most times you will get Kindness back!
