Bob, I’m impressed by your story, and your writing. You don’t know me, but I’ve seen you at the Republic in some of my many visits over the years. I’ve forgotten when I made my first visit there with my husband and our two children. I do remember how delighted we were at this little country with its beautiful garden and sense of fun (not to mention its free samples of goodies). Your brainchild itself is a tribute to your dad’s admonishments to be good and have fun. I bet its also a tribute to your mother, who has waited on me many times, to work hard. With six children, I’m sure that she taught that by example! Cherry Republic is one of the many reasons that we have returned to the cottage we rent in Glen Arbor once or twice every year since 2008. Our children now have young children of their own (technically, our son and DIL’s daughter will be born in October). We hope to be able to follow your dad’s advice, and treat them to fun times at Cherry Republic and the Leelanau Peninsula in the future.
