Comment on Walking the Lake Michigan beach — a public right, or trespassing? by Anne

Kris, I TOTALLY agree with you!!!! I hate the fact that these “home owners” are thinking they own “their” beach on a great lake or, any lake for that fact????

Growing up, I NEVER remember seeing those condescending signs of “PRIVATE PROPERTY”, or, “END OF PUBLIC BEACH” signs. I’m in my forties now and am appalled at what has happened over the years. I could believe it when I moved from the Upper Peninsula last year.

I was counting on walking the beach, ANYWHERE. To take pictures, enjoying the sunsets, and just plain being there. But, now you have the hotels, resorts, and now “home owners” that have totally taken over this beautiful lake.

I’m sorry, but, if I stop alongside the road and it says, “PUBLIC BEACH” or, “PRIVATE PROPERTY”, you may see me there. As far as I’m concerned, NO ONE has the right to own property on the beach. The state, yes, but, for personal and financial purposes – NO.
