I own lakefront property on lake Huron and I understand the issues being discussed here. The real problem here is the 1 % of the population that feels ENTITLED! It’s not just some landowners but those few who feel they are ENTITLED to ALL the benefits of landowners with none of the responsibilities and costs. Most of us in Michigan with full time jobs can afford lakefront property if it was our priotity to do so…
I really don’t have a problem with people walking the beach but I do have a problem when they come up and sit at my picnic table (50 feet or more from ANY high water mark) and sort through (and take) stones and fossils I have collected. I try to keep my beach clean and that takes time and effort. To the 1 % of you who feel entitled to our beaches with no respect to the landowners you could at least pick up one piece of trash take a little piece ow ownership and respect with you.
Public beaches and parks are for all to enjoy but private property is to be respected. Walk the shoreline but respect private property
