Comment on In support of a digital Glen Arbor Township sign by John Volk

I suggest that Patricia Widmayer erect the sign she so desires on the northeast corner of the intersection of M-22 and M-109, across the street from Anderson’s Food Market, in other words, on her own property. That location is by far and away the most trafficked spot in Glen Arbor. Being on the corner, it would be visible from all four directions at a four way stop and it would not prove to be as dangerous of a distraction as a scrolling, flashing sign in the middle of the block where the township hall is located and which is unviewable when cars are parked in front of it. Ms. Widmayer could construct a sign in keeping with both the sign ordinance and with exterior decor of the bed and breakfast she owns and manages. A nice wooden sign with an “up light” illuminating it (similar to the one at the Sylvan Inn) would be in keeping with the village’s “ambience.” It would have the added advantage of being relatively inexpensive and could perhaps be financed by the Glen Arbor Bed and Breakfast, maybe with partial support from the Chamber of Commerce which directly benefits from events drawing crowds to Glen Arbor. Ms. Widmayer could then change the sign at her own convenience as it would be just steps away from the front door of her B and B and she would not have to impose on members of the township board. In my opinion, this is a win for all parties.
