I had the great fortune of working with Dean on a case in Traverse City in 2011-2012. He got me into the case after he saw the injustice that was done to a family. He was always ready to listen to our (the clients’ and my) frustrations with that injustice.
He and Cindy shared their home or their apartment behind the office with me each time we had hearings in the case, and I came to love him for his kind, generous spirit. While I eventually learned (from his son’s book!) about Dean’s amazing history, he never bragged or boasted. He was a civil rights and human rights advocate even into those later years.
I send my condolences to Cindy and the rest of his family. I was privileged to know him.
