Comment on Dollar stores targeting northern Michigan towns? by Christine Schopieray

I grew up in Elmwood Township & spent half my life basking in the natural beauty of Leelanau County I would hate to see the peninsula destroyed by this commercial venture. What you have is PURE Michigan. No corporate stores, no electric billboards, just beautiful vistas and hardworking, salt of the earth people. I pray it stays that way. The locals needs to support local businesses or there won’t be any local shop owners. This is a very slippery slope. Look at the effect Nestle has had on Evart. (Draining aquifers & trout streams) One corporation, making millions while the locals get a pittance. Think local, buy local. To quote Joni Mitchell, “They take paradise and out up a parking lot.” Don’t let them get their foot in the door.
