Christine, your animus and accusations toward me are infounded. I thought it obvious that I used Costco as an example, not as a comparison. FWIW, I really don’t care about Maple City, one way or the other. I live in Glen Arbor. I was just pointing out that there are two sides to every issue. Just like the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, the loudest and most active usually get their way, whether they represent the majority or not. In the case at hand, it certainly seemed that “Not in my back yard” was the major motivation . Many of those same people are OK with development, as long as they don’t feel it affects their immediate surrounds or if the positive aspects out-weigh the negative. The gas station certainly is not bucolic as you and others desire, but it is covenient, so it exists. As another commenter pointed out, Maple City has zoning, which serves to regulate such things. I’m done with this.
