I can relate to the joy of OWS.
I cannot relate to the lack of coordination with the Coast Guard and other local authorities; the superintendent’s words were a polite way of saying, “This wasn’t the best idea, puts more than the swimmer at risk, and please, no copycats.” Read the sign about how much effort goes into rescuing someone from the dune. Water rescues in a shipping channel are far worse.
Also, the swimmer needed to have a visible (think bright orange) flotation device tethered to his ankle. Again, this is a shipping channel.
If the swimmer swims with any of the local USMS teams in the Holland area, he surely was told some tips he chose not to take.
