Had a Forester tell me it is most likely drought-stress being seen in the hickory around our place. Interesting to note: Hickory, or any tree (especially hardwoods) will show decline in the crown, first. If you want to know how healthy your tree is, just look to the crown. A full, large-leafed crown is health. Well, I can see many hickory with smaller leaves at the tops where before they were just as full up top as down the sides and around the bottom part of the canopy. I just hope they are able to recover. We do have lots of acorns and walnuts; not many hickory nuts. But, I do believe we will have a winter this time. God is feeding the critters!
