I met Rich when I was the Undersheriff in Leelanau County. We became immediate friends. I remember the many snowy nights we would call Rich out with his wrecker to recover vehicles of accident victims. He was always cheerful, in his own special way, no matter how bad the weather or hour was and was a joy to work with. Rich bought the ice company I owned, Cherryland Ice, from me in the early 70’s , built a commercial ice plant on his Alligator Hill property and expanded the company to a regional ice sales and delivery service. In the later years when I returned to Leelanau County , as the Administrator, Rich and Bonnie would stop in to the office to visit when ever they were in Leland. Our visits were always joy. Rich will be sadly missed.
