Thanks for these two articles on the Shaldas, the Bohemians, and the North Unity settlement. In addition to the Ropps’ account (I remember when they and their many daughters lived there in the 1990s), I also really appreciate the information provided by Paul Dechow and the vivid memories shared by Diana Shalda Johnson. They help keep the rich, nuanced history of this beloved place alive for us all, whether descendants of these ethnic groups, modern-day Leelanau residents, or casual visitors. Well done, all.
