I am the Kathy Schmid noted in the above article. I am writing to clear up some misinformation. I am not the owner of On the Narrows Apartments, my mother is. I help her manage her 4 unit resort, and with her daily activities, as she is 83 years young.
I did NOT make any comment to The Sun or anyone else about use of the shallow Narrows Cove as a party place, though the point is well taken. As a matter of FACT, I own a small farm in Benzie County. I spend every morning of my life mucking out my horse barn (mucking means removing manure). I would not look forward to doing the same on my mother’s beach every day. My mother’s immediate concerns are with the safety of people trying to use the marina, and with swimmers in the area that will be congested with boats waiting to use the marina’s gas dock; as well as the degradation of our beautiful lake with human, animal and boat waste. There are no public restrooms at the marina.
The marina owners claim they are only trying to provide a public service. That I was the one to inform the township and Glen Lake Association of the proposal, and to express concerns about public safety and environmental hazards does not make me self-centered or a NIMBY. By the way, there is a marina accessible to the lake with PLENTY of slips and parking available. And all the parking at the old dairy bar and the old motel are required for use for the restaurant and the motel. Sorry, that’s not the answer.
