This ranks right up there with some of the worst ideas I’ve ever seen for Northern Michigan. Don’t be fooled by the rhetoric…the first reason for this is profit. The notion that it has to be couched in terms like conservation and education is a perfect example of a smokescreen. And the idea that “this kind of entertainment with an educational component will teach people about forestation” is a bit like saying that the hundreds of people moored in boats on the Torch Lake sandbar drinking their breakfast, lunch and dinner is teaching people about water. It’s past time when local residents stopped such destructive and invasive plans to lure more tourists using massive amounts of steel to make a dollar. And the idea that “the canopy would supplement the majestic views” of the park is ludicrous. What is beyond “majestic” and why does an already magnificent view which requires an actual hike over varied terrain need to be supplemented?
