To me, this is the most disturbing part of the story for two reasons: “When I asked Mark Evans how his canopy walk would change the character of the neighborhood, he pointed out that change is inevitable, and that people shouldn’t expect John and Wendy Martin to sit on that undeveloped land forever.”
1) Development is not inevitable; his statement is arrogant and condescending.
2) The Martins could donate / sell the land to a local or national conservancy.
I would encourage the Martins to do that for the many reasons that should be apparent.
