Excellent reporting Glen Arbor Sun. You are why local media is so crucial to maintaining a well informed community. More concerning to this citizen is the integrity of our law enforcement agencies. Democracy is at greater risk of fracturing when law enforcement thwarts the law under the banner of “protecting our Constitutional Rights.” The Leelanau County Sheriff’s rather self-righteous response to a request for information from a fellow elected county official is concerning. His attitude, and the possibility of Federal Agents breaking their own code of conduct in our community pose a greater threat to this nation than do illegal immigrants – members of our community that are statistically no more likely to commit crimes than legal citizens. Furthermore, Sheriff Borkovich’s claim that he will serve in an unbiased manner while in the same diatribe refuses to respond to a citizens request for information based on his perception of their political orientation sheds a great deal of transparency on not only how he views his community, but more importantly on his qualifications to serve it.
