Given that we’ve lived through multiple virus outbreaks with far higher mortality rates that Covid-19, I’m sure everyone can agree, the decision to close businesses and shelter in place, is an unprecedented step. Yes?
For the sake of clarity, let’s agree you are correct regarding Constitutional authority and Supreme Court Rulings. There remain the issues of IF this authority should have been exercised, HOW it should be applied and WHO in our representative republic, is best suited to challenge it?
That IS the way the system is supposed to work, right? Power checked by power.
My arguments remain unchanged.
1) Sheriff Borkovich has the discretion to apply the law as local conditions dictate.
Remember, his officers are still enforcing the law with WARNINGS, instead of $1,000 fines for citizens, understandably confused by the logic: You can take your boat out to fish …. You just can’t take a motor with you”.
2) Who better to check government power than another government official?
God forbid the alternative.
3) Months into this pandemic there remain ZERO deaths in all (4) counties and hospitals are NOT being over-run. Is this an issue of process or of common-sense and rational application of the law?
I submit the Sheriff has demonstrated exactly that.
Look, we all make mistakes. Hindsight is 20/20. This is a new Governor and this was a big scare, but I think we can all agree that blanket denial of 1st Amendment rights, was an injudicious application of authority.

Sheriff Borkovich is NOT a redneck vigilante, as some have stated, and my logic-based observations are no more “right-wing hogwash” than yours are “left-wing authoritarianism”.
I’d prefer this not devolve into a partisan food-fight, but if POLITICS is what’s behind all this contempt of authority, maybe you can explain how a 4th Amendment right to privacy (abortion) overrides these 1st Amendment rights (free exercise of religion) & (to peaceably assemble)?
